Biography

Prof.Dr. Abdulkarim Yasin Karim a Biotechnologist. Graduated from Salahaddin University-Erbil (B.Sc. and M.Sc.), University of Jagiellonian/Poland (Ph.D and Postdoc). He specializes in protein expression, purification and crystallization. In 2010, He discovered a metalloprotease enzyme called Karilysin ( Karim+Lysis) after his name from Tannerella forsythia one of the red complex periodontopathogens.

Since 2020 his interdisciplinary research is performed in collaboration with Malopolska Center of Biotechnology at Jagiellonian University/Poland in drug delivery systems, cancer biology and anti-viral drug discovery for more effective therapy in regenerative medicine. For years he has been a member of the International Proteolysis Society (IPS), Cancer Research Society (CRS) and International Association of Oncology (IAO). His scientific output includes 33 publications in prestigious international journals (e.g., PLoS ONE, Genes, Structure, International Journal of Molecular Science, Mammalian Genome, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Journal of Immunology), with a total number of citations above 600 and a Hirsch index of h=14.

Since 1998 he has been teaching and an independent researcher at the Department of Biology, Salahaddin University-Erbil. He is currently a University Professor supervising Ph.D.'s, and MSc.'s theses.
