Biography

Mrs. Fenk has been a faculty member in the Department of Architecture at the University of Salahaddin-Erbil since 2009. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Salahaddin University–Erbil in the same year. Recognized for her academic excellence, she was granted the Human Capacity Development Program (HCDP) Scholarship to complete her Master of Science in Sustainable Building and Environment at Newcastle University, United Kingdom, in 2013.

Her research pursuits span a wide array of topics, including but not limited to Sustainable Architecture, Environmental Design in Architecture, Building Technologies and Physics, Building Performance Simulation, Heritage Buildings, and Historical Retrofits. She adopts an interdisciplinary approach, contextualizing architectural design within broader social, environmental, and economic frameworks.

To date, she has contributed to the scholarly community through the publication of four research papers in peer-reviewed journals in the fields of architecture and the built environment. Furthermore, she has actively participated in academic conferences on a local scale.

The focal point of her research is the synergistic relationship among the built environment, natural ecosystems, and political economy, particularly in the Kurdistan region. Currently, she is investigating the efficacy of integrating traditional methods and materials into contemporary projects for cooling systems. Her work involves the utilization of Green BIM tools for performance evaluation.

Professionally, Mrs. Fenk has lent her expertise to two leading consulting engineering firms. Subsequently, she co-founded BUNYAN Consultant Engineering Bureau in 2010, where she continues to serve as a practising architect. She has been involved in the design and preparation of architectural drawings for several significant projects in Erbil city.

In her role as an educator, Mrs. Fenk instructs courses in Architectural Design Studio (First Stage), Environment (Fourth Stage), and Urban Design (Fourth Stage).

Currently, she is enrolled as a Ph.D. student at Salahaddin University-Erbil.
