Ghassan Marooki was born in Erbil, Iraq, in 1964.

I received the B.Sc. degree in civil engineering and the M.Sc. degree in Structural engineering from Salahaddin University in 1986 and 1992, respectively. In 2021 I gained Ph.D. degree in Structural engineering and construction materials form Salahaddin University.

In 1992-1993 I was a lecturer in Electrical Department - College of Engineering, Salahaddin University, teaching the subject of Mathematics for second class students.

In 2010, I joined the Water Resources Department - College of Engineering, Salahaddin University, as assistant lecturer. My academic efforts during the period included teaching the subjects of Engineering Mechanics, Mechanics of Materials, Theory of Structures, Construction Methods and Estimation, Concrete Design, Concrete Design of Hydraulic Structures, Water Resources Engineering Structures, Building Elements, in addition of supervising engineering projects and internship students.

As Structural Engineer, I have designed and supervised engineering projects that included multi-storey buildings, trusses, towers and bridges.

I have passed the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with band score (6.5).
