Kamaran Mohammad Palani is a lecturer in IR at Salahaddin University-Erbill. He holds PhD from Leiden University in 2021. He completed his MA in Politics and International Relations (Global Security) at Keele University in the UK in 2014. Over the past years, Kamaran has acquired extensive experience by working with various academic and research centres, local and international organizations, including IOM, World Bank, UNAMI, UNDP, Ulster University, PAX, Spark, and Iraq Studies in Beirut.
Kamaran’s research interest includes statehood and sovereignty, Kurdish regional politics, Iraqi politics, prevention of violent extremism, and internal displacement in Iraq and the Middle East. Palani has published in various academic journals, such as: International Peacekeeping, Third World Quarterly, Ethnopolitics, British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies and International Migration, and he is also the author of Kurdistan’s De Facto Statehood: A New Explanatory Framework (Routledge, 2022)
